Xin Qiji was a great patriotic poet and hero of the Southern Song Dynasty. After years in retirement, the court recalled him as the Pacification Commissioner of Eastern Zhejiang. When Emperor Ningzong summoned him to the capital to discuss strategies for the northern expedition, his friend - the poet Lu You - was overjoyed. Lu You wrote a long poem to see him off: 'Using great timber for a small job has always been lamented / Your talents rival those of Guan Zhong and Xiao He.' Lu You meant that appointing a genius like Xin Qiji to a regional post was a tragic waste.
