Laozi wrote: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."
This is the most quoted line from the Dao De Jing outside of China — and one of the most universally applicable. The thousand miles are not the challenge; the first step is. Every great achievement began with someone deciding to begin.
千里之行,始于足下。

Core Wisdom
The mountain is climbed one step at a time. The book is written one word at a time. The empire is built one decision at a time. Start.
Laozi's teaching is about the psychology of initiation. The thousand miles are intimidating; the single step is not. By framing the journey in terms of the step rather than the destination, Laozi makes the impossible feel possible.
This is also a teaching about presence. The step you take is always the current one. You cannot take tomorrow's step today. The journey of a thousand miles is, in each moment, a journey of one step.
