The Radical Choice

Sun Buer (孙不二, also known as Sun Fuchun 孙富春) was born into a wealthy family in Shandong province during the Song dynasty. She married Ma Yu (马钰), a fellow student of Wang Chongyang, the founder of Quanzhen Taoism. They had five children together.

When Wang Chongyang came to their home seeking followers, Sun Buer initially resisted his teachings. But witnessing her husband's transformation through Daoist practice, she eventually asked to become a disciple herself. Wang Chongyang tested her — she passed. In 1169, she left her family, shaved her head, and entered the Dao as a nun — the only female among the Seven Perfected Ones.

In Song dynasty China, a married woman with children leaving her home for religious life was virtually unprecedented. Sun Buer's choice was not fleeing — it was answering a call that no social structure could contain.

惊世抉择

孙不二（孙不二，原名孙富春）生于宋代山东一个富裕家庭。她嫁给了马钰（王重阳的弟子），育有五个孩子。王重阳来她家招收弟子时，孙不二最初抗拒他的教化。但目睹丈夫通过道教修行的蜕变，她最终请求成为弟子。王重阳考验她——她通过了。1169年，她离开家庭，削发入道——成为全真七子中唯一的女性。

在宋代中国，一个已婚有子的女子离家出家几乎是前所未有的。孙不二的选择不是逃避——而是回应一个任何社会结构都无法容纳的召唤。

Founding the Qingjing Lineage

Sun Buer founded the Qingjing Pai (清静派, Purity and Tranquility School) — a lineage specifically for women practitioners within Quanzhen Taoism. She developed female-specific inner alchemy (女丹) techniques, adapted to women's physiology and spiritual experience.

Her teachings emphasized "清静散人" — the Scattered Person of Purity and Tranquility. She taught that women could achieve the same spiritual heights as men through different but equally valid practices.

Legacy

Sun Buer was posthumously honored as "Qingjing Yuanjun" (清静元君, Perfect Lord of Purity and Tranquility). Her lineage continues today — Quanzhen nunneries across China trace their spiritual ancestry to her. She proved that the Dao recognizes no gender — that the ultimate reality is accessible to all who have the courage to pursue it.
