Overview
The 14 major stars (主星, Zhǔ Xīng) are the most important stars in any Zi Wei Dou Shu chart. Each carries a distinct personality, energy, and set of qualities that influence the palace it occupies. Think of them as the main characters in the story of your chart — while over 100 minor stars exist, the major stars set the tone.
The 14 stars are divided into two groups, each led by an "emperor" star:
- Zi Wei Group (紫微星系) — 6 stars led by Zi Wei (Purple Emperor). Represents the emperor and his court.
- Tian Fu Group (天府星系) — 8 stars led by Tian Fu (Heavenly Treasury). Represents the treasury and its administration.
Star Brightness (亮度)
Every major star has different levels of brightness depending on which palace it occupies. Brightness determines how effectively a star can express its positive qualities. There are seven levels:
Thriving
Prosperous
Obtaining
Beneficial
Neutral
Not
Fallen
庙 (Thriving) and 旺 (Prosperous) are the highest levels — the star expresses its best qualities powerfully. 陷 (Fallen) is the lowest — the star's positive qualities are weakened and its challenging aspects become more prominent.
