🏮 Cultural Background

Feng Shui (风水, Fēng Shuǐ — literally "wind and water") is the ancient Chinese art and science of arranging living spaces to harmonize with the natural flow of energy (气, qì). With roots stretching back over 3,500 years, it is one of the Five Arts (五术) of Chinese metaphysics and remains deeply influential in architecture, interior design, and urban planning across East Asia.

The Bagua (八卦) — the Eight Trigrams — is the foundational framework of Feng Shui analysis. Derived from the I Ching, the Bagua maps the eight cardinal and intermediate directions, each governed by a trigram, element, and life domain. Your personal BaZi chart can also reveal which directions are most auspicious for you.. By overlaying the Bagua onto a floor plan, practitioners can identify which areas of a space correspond to wealth, relationships, career, health, and other life aspects.

Traditional Feng Shui also considers the flow of qi through a space — where it accumulates, where it stagnates, and where it rushes away. The ideal space collects and circulates qi gently, like a meandering stream. Sharp corners, clutter, and blocked doorways create "sha qi" (煞气, killing energy), while curves, plants, and water features promote positive flow.

While classical Feng Shui requires a luopan (罗盘) compass and expert analysis, this simplified Bagua-based tool introduces the core principles in an accessible way. For serious Feng Shui consultation, a qualified practitioner considers building orientation, surrounding landscape, and the birth charts of the occupants.
