「宠辱若惊,贵大患若身。何谓宠辱若惊?宠为下,得之若惊,失之若惊,是谓宠辱若惊。」

释义Annotation

「宠辱若惊」出自《道德经》第十三章。得宠和受辱都令人惊恐不安。老子认为,过分在意宠辱得失,是因为把自身看得太重。宠为下——得到恩宠时惊喜惶恐,失去恩宠时同样惊恐不安。真正的修养是超越宠辱,不为外物所动。

"Chong ru ruo jing" originates from Chapter 13 of the Daodejing. Both favor and disgrace cause alarm. Laozi teaches that excessive concern over favor and disgrace stems from taking oneself too seriously. Favor is inferior — gaining it causes startled anxiety, losing it causes the same.
