Annotation
"Return to the root" is Laozi's profound insight into the movement of all things. Though all things grow vigorously and change endlessly, they ultimately return to their source — the Tao. "Returning to the root is called stillness" — to return to the source is to be still, the natural state of life.
Modern Application
In fast-paced modern life, "return to the root" reminds us to regularly return to our inner selves. In corporate culture, return to original mission after expansion.
