The Five Pillars of Space
The Five Directional Elders (Wu Fang Wu Lao, 五方五老) are five primordial deities who preside over the five cardinal directions: East, South, Center, West, and North. They are among the oldest figures in Chinese religious thought, predating organized Taoism and rooted in the cosmological framework of the Wuxing (五行, Five Phases/Elements).
Each Elder governs a direction, a color, an element, a season, and a virtue. Together they form the complete spatial structure of the cosmos — a mandala of five powers that holds the universe in balance.
空间的五根支柱
五方五老是掌管五个基本方位（东、南、中、西、北）的五位始祖神灵。他们是中国宗教思想中最古老的形象之一，早于有组织的道教，根植于五行（五行）的宇宙论框架。
每位"老"掌管一个方位、一种颜色、一种元素、一个季节和一种德行。他们共同构成宇宙的完整空间结构——一个维系天地平衡的五力曼陀罗。
Lord of the East
东方青帝 · 青灵始老天君The Azure Emperor — lord of spring, wood, and new growth. He rides the Azure Dragon (青龙) and governs the awakening of life. Associated with renewal, creativity, and the east wind that brings spring.
青帝——春之主，木之主，万物生长之主。骑青龙，掌管生命之觉醒。与更新、创造和带来春天的东风相关。

Lord of the Center
中央黄帝 · 黄灵元老天君The Yellow Emperor — lord of the center, earth, and the late season. He is the axis mundi, the stabilizing force around which the four directions organize themselves. Associated with balance, nourishment, and sovereignty. In mythology, Huangdi (黄帝) is the ancestor of all Chinese civilization.
