What Is BaZi Four Pillars of Destiny

Birth year, month, day and hour encoded in eight characters — the core of Chinese traditional life study.

What Is BaZi

BaZi (八字), also called Eight Characters or Four Pillars of Destiny, is the most important traditional Chinese folk destiny culture system. It records a person's birth year, month, day and hour with Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches, forming four pillars and eight characters in total.

The term "Four Pillars" refers to the four time units (year, month, day, hour); each pillar has one Stem and one Branch, totaling 8 characters — hence "BaZi" (Eight Characters).
