Annotation
"In pursuit of learning, one gains daily; in pursuit of the Tao, one loses daily" — two opposite paths. Learning is outward knowledge-seeking; the Tao is inward truth-seeking. Laozi does not deny learning but points out they are different paths.
Modern Application
In an age of information explosion, accumulate knowledge while also "losing daily" — filtering unnecessary noise to achieve true insight. Subtraction requires more wisdom than addition.
