风水八卦 — The Energy Map of Your Home
The Bagua (八卦) is Feng Shui's fundamental energy map — an octagonal grid that divides any space into eight life areas, each governed by a trigram, element, and color. This guide teaches you how to overlay the Bagua on your home and optimize every room for harmony and prosperity.
The Bagua (八卦, Bā Guà — "Eight Trigrams") is one of the oldest symbols in Chinese metaphysics, originating from the legendary sage-king Fu Xi (伏羲) over 5,000 years ago. It is an octagonal map that divides space into eight sectors, each associated with a trigram, element, color, and life domain.
In Feng Shui, the Bagua is used to analyze the energy (气, Qì) of a space. By mapping your home onto the Bagua, you can identify which areas support specific life goals — wealth, relationships, career, health — and which areas may need balancing.
The Bagua is built on the same Five Elements and Yin-Yang framework used in BaZi, I Ching divination, and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Use the Feng Shui Room Analyzer to check the elemental balance of any room in your home.
The Five Elements (五行, Wǔ Xíng) are the engine of Feng Shui adjustments. Understanding their cycles is essential for effective cures:
🌳 Wood → 🔥 Fire → 🪨 Earth → ⚙️ Metal → 💧 Water → 🌳 Wood
Use this cycle to strengthen a weak element. For example, add Wood to boost Fire, or add Water to nourish Wood.
🌳 Wood → 🪨 Earth → 💧 Water → 🔥 Fire → ⚙️ Metal → 🌳 Wood
Use this cycle to reduce an excessive element. For example, add Metal to control excess Wood, or add Water to calm excess Fire.
Feng Shui is not about filling every corner with elements. It is about creating balance. Too much of any element — even a "good" one — creates disharmony.
The bedroom should feel calm, grounded, and nurturing. Earth and soft Fire elements work best here.
The kitchen represents nourishment and family wealth. The stove is its heart.
Bathrooms drain energy. In Feng Shui, they are considered energy leaks.
Your workspace should support focus, clarity, and ambition.
The living room is where family energy gathers. It should feel warm, open, and inviting.
The front entrance is where all energy enters your home. It is the most important area in Feng Shui.
Irregular shapes mean missing Bagua sectors. Identify which sectors are "missing" and strengthen them with elemental cures placed near the area where the sector would extend. You can also use mirrors to symbolically "expand" the missing area.
It's not ideal, since bathrooms drain energy. Mitigate it by: keeping the toilet lid closed, keeping the door closed, adding healthy plants (Wood absorbs Water), and placing a small mirror on the outside of the door. Use the Feng Shui Room Analyzer for specific recommendations.
Absolutely. Feng Shui works with any space. You can't always renovate, but you can always rearrange furniture, add plants, change colors, and use elemental cures. Even small adjustments make a difference.
Your personal element is determined by your BaZi (Four Pillars) chart — specifically your Day Master. Knowing your element helps you choose the most supportive colors, directions, and materials for your personal space.
For the Compass School method, yes. A simple compass app on your phone is sufficient. Stand in the center of your home, note the direction of your front door, and align the Bagua accordingly.
