"Peng cheng wan li" (Roc's journey of ten thousand miles) is a metaphor for a boundless future and lofty ambitions. It originates from Zhuangzi's "Free and Easy Wandering," depicting the spectacular migration of the great Peng bird: it strikes the water for three thousand li, spirals upward ninety thousand li on a whirlwind, and rides the winds of June toward the Southern Sea.
The Peng bird in Zhuangzi's writing is a transcendent being. It departs from the Northern Sea toward the Southern Sea — symbolizing a spiritual journey from darkness to light, from the finite to the infinite. Yet Zhuangzi's deeper point is that even the Peng depends on something; true freedom is spiritual liberation without any reliance.
