「方便之门」出自佛教的「方便」（upaya）概念。「方便」不是现代汉语中「便利」的意思，而是指佛陀根据众生不同的根器和需求，采用灵活多样的方法来引导他们走向觉悟。「方便之门」就是这些灵活法门的总称。《法华经》中，佛陀用「火宅喻」说明：三乘（声闻、缘觉、菩萨）其实都是「方便」，最终都归于一佛乘。「方便」体现了佛教教育的灵活性和包容性。
'The gate of expedient means' comes from the Buddhist concept of 'upaya' — the Buddha uses flexible methods tailored to each being's capacity to guide them toward awakening. The Lotus Sutra's 'burning house' parable illustrates this: the three vehicles are all 'expedient means' leading to the One Vehicle.
