Selected Passages

When Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva was practicing the profound prajnaparamita, he illuminated the five aggregates and saw that they are all empty, and crossed beyond all suffering and difficulty.

Sariputra, form is not different from emptiness, emptiness is not different from form. Form is emptiness, emptiness is form. Feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness are also like this.

Sariputra, all dharmas are marked with emptiness — they neither arise nor cease, are neither defiled nor pure, neither increase nor decrease.

Therefore, in emptiness there is no form, no feeling, perception, formation, or consciousness; no eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, or mind; no sight, sound, smell, taste, touch, or dharmas.

There is no ignorance and no extinction of ignorance, and so on to no aging and death and no extinction of aging and death. There is no suffering, no accumulation, no cessation, no path. There is no wisdom and no attainment.

With nothing to attain, the Bodhisattva relies on prajnaparamita, and the mind is without hindrance. Without hindrance, there is no fear. Far from all inverted dreams and thoughts, one ultimately attains nirvana.

Gate gate, paragate, parasamgate, bodhi svaha.

Core Teachings

Historical Significance
