「因果报应」是佛教最核心的基本教义之一。「因」是行为的种子，「果」是行为的果实，「报应」是因果之间的必然联系。佛教认为，一切行为（身、口、意三业）都会产生相应的果报——善因善果，恶因恶果。这不是外在的赏罚机制，而是宇宙的自然法则。因果通三世：前世的因影响今生，今生的因影响来世。但佛教也强调：因果不是宿命——通过当下的修行，可以改变未来的果报。
'Karmic cause and effect' is one of Buddhism's most fundamental doctrines. 'Cause' (yin) is the seed of action; 'effect' (guo) is its fruit. All actions of body, speech, and mind produce corresponding results — good causes bring good effects, evil causes bring evil effects. This is not external reward-and-punishment but a natural law. Buddhism also emphasizes: karma is not fatalism — present practice can change future outcomes.
