「和而不同」是孔子对君子品格的精妙描述。君子能与人和谐相处，但不盲目附和；小人虽然表面附和，内心却不和谐。「和」是尊重差异、求同存异；「同」是取消差异、盲目一致。孔子认为，真正的和谐不是消灭不同意见，而是在不同意见中找到共识。这是儒家处理多元性的最高智慧。
'Harmonious but not identical' — a gentleman maintains harmony without blindly conforming; a petty person conforms but lacks true harmony. 'Harmony' respects differences and seeks common ground; 'sameness' eliminates differences. True harmony is finding consensus amid diverse opinions.
