庖丁宰牛，刀刃十九年如新。以神遇而不以目视，技艺臻于道的境界。 Cook Ding butchers an ox with a blade kept sharp for nineteen years. He meets with his spirit, not his eyes — skill elevated to the level of the Tao.

眼中不再看到完整的牛。庖丁解牛三年后达到的境界——超越形体，直达肌理。 The eye no longer sees the whole ox. The state Cook Ding reached after three years — seeing beyond form to perceive the inner structure.

刀刃在骨节间游走，绰绰有余。比喻处理事务从容不迫，技艺纯熟。 The blade glides through joints with room to spare. A metaphor for handling affairs with ease and consummate skill.

庖丁解牛后四顾自得。形容对自己的成就感到满足和骄傲，志得意满。 After finishing his work, Cook Ding looks around with quiet satisfaction. Describes the feeling of pride and fulfillment in one's accomplishment.

刀刃恰好切中骨节筋肉相连之处。比喻说话或做事正中要害，切中关键。 The blade strikes precisely where sinew meets bone. A metaphor for hitting the mark, addressing the crux of any matter.

薪尽火传，柴虽烧尽而火种延续。比喻学问、精神代代相传，生生不息。 The firewood burns out but the flame passes on. Knowledge and spirit are transmitted from generation to generation, never extinguished.

违背天道，放纵情感。庄子警示过度执着于情感是背离自然之道的行为。 To flee from heaven and multiply emotions. Zhuangzi warns that excessive emotional attachment is a departure from the natural Way.

违背天道所受的惩罚。逆天而行必遭其殃，顺天而动方得安宁。 The penalty for defying the heavenly Way. Those who act against nature will suffer; those who flow with it find peace.

螳螂举臂挡车，不自量力。比喻人力微薄却不自量力地与强大力量对抗。 A praying mantis raises its arms to stop a cart. Overestimating one's strength and recklessly opposing overwhelming forces.

泉水干涸，鱼儿用唾沫互相润湿。比喻在困境中相互扶持，却不如各自逍遥于江湖。 When the spring dries up, fish moisten each other with spit. Mutual aid in hardship — yet Zhuangzi suggests it is better to forget one another in rivers and lakes.

挥动斧头如同疾风。匠石运斧削鼻上白泥而鼻不伤，技艺出神入化。 Swinging an axe with the force of wind. Carpenter Shi shaves plaster from a nose without injury — skill so refined it borders on the miraculous.

如鬼神之斧所雕。形容技艺极其精巧，非人力所能及，浑然天成。 As if carved by the axe of spirits and gods. Craftsmanship so exquisite it transcends human ability, appearing wholly natural.

呆得像木头鸡一样。纪渻子训练斗鸡至木鸡境界——外表沉静如木，内蕴不怒而威。 Still as a wooden rooster. Ji Shengzi trained a fighting cock to wooden stillness — outwardly calm, yet radiating an invincible inner power.

如同掀开帷幕一般清楚明白。比喻真相或道理显而易见，不可遮掩。 As clear as lifting a curtain. The truth or principle is self-evident and impossible to conceal.
