Hong Mai (1123–1202), courtesy name Jinglu, was a Southern Song scholar-official who served four emperors across six decades. His Yijian Zhi is the largest collection of supernatural tales in Chinese literature — a work so vast that even its surviving portions dwarf every comparable text. The stories range from intimate ghost encounters to epic moral parables, forming a complete atlas of the Chinese supernatural imagination.
