— Buddhist six sense roots
Annotation
'The six sense roots are pure' is an important Buddhist practice stage. The 'six roots' are eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind — the six sense faculties. 'Pure' means they are not stained by external conditions — not craving beauty, not angered by harsh words, not shaken by temptation. When the six roots are pure, the mind is not pulled by external conditions, and practice can progress.
