「不自伐故有功」是老子对「谦退之道」的精辟论述。不自我夸耀,所以才有真正的功绩。越是急于证明自己的人,越难以获得认可;越是默默做事的人,越能赢得尊重。老子连用四个「不自」,构成了完整的「去我」修养体系。

"He who does not boast achieves merit" — not boasting leads to true accomplishment. Those eager to prove themselves gain the least recognition, while those who work silently earn the most respect. Four "not-self" phrases form a complete system of "removing the ego."
