— Avatamsaka Sutra / Zen Buddhism
Annotation
'One flower, one world' embodies the Huayan teaching of 'non-obstruction between phenomena.' A single flower contains the truth of the entire universe; a single leaf embodies the Buddha's dharma body. This is not poetic exaggeration but a profound insight into the holographic nature of reality — every tiny existence contains the totality. Zen Buddhism brings this into daily practice: seeing the deepest dharma in the most ordinary things.
Modern Application
Never underestimate small acts of kindness or attention to detail. A smile can change someone's day; a habit can change a life. Attending to the present and cherishing what is before you is the living practice of 'one flower, one world.'
